Roger Protz Visiting Three Tuns Brewery.
10th May 2010
The final phase of a million pound project to save the Three Tuns Brewery has been completed. The eight year project has ensured the survival of the country’s most loved brewery – The Three Tuns, universally considered as the flagship for all devotees of real ale and firmly established as one of the must visit venues in Shropshire.
To celebrate the completion of the work Roger Protz, Britain’s foremost beer writer and taster, will be at the brewery on the 2 June 2010 giving a talk about the revival of craft brewing in the UK and meeting landlords and landladies from the many pubs supplied by The Three Tuns Brewery.
Roger contributes to The Guardian, The Times and the Radio 4 Food Programme. He is European editor of all about beer, the most influential beer magazine in the US. He has a weekly column in The Morning Advertiser and a monthly page in WHAT’S BREWING as well as being the editor of CAMRA’s annual good beer guide. Bill Bainbridge, director of The Three Tuns Brewery, said
“Roger has written 18 books on beer and pubs as well as winning many awards in Britain, Europe and America, it will be a great privilege to host him for a day at the Brewery and show him how we have achieved the installation of our new modern brewery equipment into the most challenging of spaces, a rare miniature Victorian tower and original brew house dating back to 1600. Most importantly we cannot wait for him to taste the beers, namely 1642 bitter, XXX, Cleric’s Cure, which are still brewed using the original recipes passed down through generations and methods unique to our special brewery”
After saving the brewery from many years of neglect and the threat of being turned into a house the Three Tuns team have spent the last eight years executing a detailed plan overcoming a list of challenges the historic building put in their way.
Managing Director John Russell continues…..
“We have brought the equipment into the 21st century but are still able to brew to the distinctive Three Tuns recipes giving our beers their unique quality that stands them apart from other modern day micro breweries. We are very much looking forward to showing off the brewery to Roger and our many customers whose support throughout the whole project has enabled us to keep this flagship brewery brewing.
